I was in the middle of a juicy conversation on the train heading home in NY one evening when a woman stopped me mid-sentence to ask me what mascara I was wearing followed by a sweet compliment. I was happy to tell her that it was Maybelline Great Lash Washable Mascara in Royal Blue. I wear the color blue for two reasons: it’s fun and it somehow makes the whites of my eyes appear whiter. That’s a hot side-effect! A braggadocious I am not, but I do get a ton of compliments on my lash color. I can hardly contain my glee. We should all be so happy.

If the eyes are the window to the soul, and your lashes are kinda short, then accentuate them with Alcone Fastlash Kit with Mascara- Fast Lash. I’ve used this product on set before and it does wonders for someone with little or no lashes. I’ve been known to use this in place of false lashes if time isn’t on my side because it works quickly to build length. Just apply your favorite mascara (or what’s in the kit) and while wet, lightly brush Fast Lash fibers onto the tips of your eyelashes and then follow with a second coat of mascara and tada, you now have long, luscious lashes that make you the center of attention. What’s better than that?

When I have the extra cash and I’m in the department store, I head over to the Lancome cosmetics counter and purchase Lancome Definicils. This lash-defining mascara is superb because it really does a great job of separating my lashes and coats each lash perfectly with color. It’s a little pricey but it does the job.

In the spirit of saving money, it can get expensive solving your eyelash shortcomings one mascara type at a time, so think about using Tarte Cosmetics lights, camera, lashes! 4-in-1 natural mascara. This mascara gives a lotta bang for only $18 bucks! It thickens, lengthens, curls and conditions. You can’t go wrong here.

More about my Pro picks:

Lancome Definicils: provides the ultimate in shaping and separation. Patented brush coats each lash, from base to tip, for superb definition. $24

Tarte Cosmetics:  a 4-in-1 (lengthening, curling, volumizing and conditioning) dermatologist-tested mascara that gives dramatic, thick, sexy lashes and is clinically proven to increase lash volume by 430%. $18

Alcone Fast Lash: is a dry, white polyester fiber that adheres to wet mascara and builds length to the lash. When you coat the Fast Lash with a second application of mascara, the difference is dramatic. Use with any mascara. $25

Maybelline Great Lash: easy-to-use, washable mascara. This formulation allows you to build healthy-looking lashes without the clumps or globs. $4.59

La Femme - Professional Formula Cake Mascara: Cake mascara that travels as a dry cake - add water and mix with the mascara brush. $8.50
