Summer party season is almost upon us, but unless you have the budget to spend on new outfits from Axparis, you’re going to have to look at ways to make the most of your existing summer dress collection. So what are your options?
The catwalks are a great place to start when looking at party fashion trends. Last year’s catwalks offer great insights into what we can expect to see this summer. Designers showcase their ideas in Paris, Milan, London and New York in November, and then mainstream fashion retailers take the ideas and use them for their own collections.
If you pay attention to what you see in the Fall season, then you know what to expect come Spring/Summer. This year it’s all about pretty slip dresses, stylish maxi dresses, and boho frocks. Off-the-shoulder garments are also very popular, so as long as you have at least one of these in your wardrobe, you’ll be on trend and ready to go all summer long.
Accessorize like a Pro
Social butterflies types can expect to be invited to numerous parties, weddings, and the like over the course of a summer. If you have access to a personal stylist and an unlimited budget, you won’t have a problem, but if like the rest of us, you have to wear the same party dress several times over, accessories are your savior.
One or two subtle accessories can transform a drab black dress into a showstopper. However, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it, so here are a few creative ways to style a summer dress this season.
Biker jackets are big news this season. You can wear a leather biker jacket with a pretty summer dress and not look out of place at all. Pink is the hot color right now and pink jackets are on trend, too, but if you prefer something more casual, go for a bomber jacket instead. If Rita Ora can pull this look off, so can you.
Statement necklaces can bring a plain dress to life. Choose a bright, bold ethnic statement necklace to lift a plain colored maxi summer dress. Chokers are very stylish, so take a leaf out of Kim Kardashian’s book and invest in a diamond choker (or diamante if you are not quite as rich).
Necklaces don’t work with every style of dress, but a handful of pretty bangles can be used to make a statement, particularly if you are wearing a boho party dress.
Cage sandals are hot this season. Wear cage sandals with a simple maxi dress or slip dress. Alternatively, go for comfort with a pair of lace up flat sandals.
Hats and Hair Accessories
Celebs are fond of fascinators, so for a wedding this is a look you can perhaps pull off with panache. Probably not a good idea for a summer BBQ.
If your dress needs a belt, opt for snakeskin (fake of course). Experiment with different accessories until you find the right look and don’t forget to add a cute clutch bag.
