Green All About It: Eco-Friendly Facial Moisturizer

Never let it be said that “sistah girls” don’t care about the environment.  In fact, an ever-growing number of A-list actresses like Kerry Washington are doing what it takes to make a better tomorrow for the next generation. Washington is currently involved in the Sustainable South Bronx Movement. Click here to view Washington’s short video on the project, and you too may become inspired to give back to your community in your own special way.

Staying in that same vein, my contribution to mother earth is to share my beauty product picks that enhance the world in which we live with anyone who’ll listen. My first pick is Origins Nourishing Face Lotion which is 95% certified organic. Trust me when I say that the organic shea butter softens and soothes the roughest of faces. Since you might find this claim hard to believe, just to stop into your local Origins store to test this product. As you well know, I believe! I believe!

Juice Beauty USDA Organic Facial Moisture Concentrate rejuvenates with organic grapeseed and cranberry and hydrates with fatty acids and antioxidants. There are a lot positives about this product, but what stands out to me the most is that it is very light on the skin. Use it in the morning and evening. It’s great for all skin types.

Another lightweight moisturizer option you should look into if you have oily to combination skin is Korres Materia Moisturizing Cream which you can find online or at Sephora store near you. This product is virtually chemical-free (no parabens, sulfates or synthetcic dyes).  What’s more, the packaging is recyclable. While the $39 price tag may seem expensive I think it’s worth the investment.

If you don’t feel like spending a ton of cash, you can still get the same result by trying Freeman Goodstuff Organics Antioxodant Facial Moisturizer for only $8.99. Just watch as your skin becomes and stays hydrated and soothed throughout the day because of two key ingredients: Acai Berry and Goji Berry. Just writing the word Freeman brings back such fond memories of my time spent in beauty school. I used to use these products on my facial clients. They (like myself) loved the end-result – a glistening complexion. You will too.

And last but not least, I wouldn’t be a professional if I didn’t remind my fellow beauty junkies to use suncreen. Burt’s Bees Radiance Day Lotion SPF 15 not only protects your face from the suns rays, it helps to renew and enhance your skin’s natural radiance. Gotta love those claims!

UPDATE:

Many beauty companies have integrated the “natural” concept into existing product lines by creating sub-categories of products – a great example is Neutrogena Naturals. This line is billed as being free of harsh chemicals, parabens (a preservative found in many cosmetics) that a segment of beauty consumers believe are harmful. Another selling point is that the line is free of dyes among other ingredients. What we can all agree on is that the well-being of our skin is of the utmost importance, so using Neutrogena’s Purifying Pore Scrub ($6.99, drugstores) 2-3 times a week to slough away dead skin to reveal super clean skin is never up for debate.

And from Tarte Cosmetics, a leader in natural cosmetics and a forever favorite of this site comes Pure Marajuca Oil ($46, qvc.com) which you apply directly on your face. The product names eludes to it being “oily,” but quite the contrary. It’s a non-greasy oil that’s quickly absorbed and is rich in fatty acids which rebuild and repair skin. Marajuca also contains Vitamin C for brighter skin, it’s free of parabens, mineral oil & synthetic fragrances. Tarte’s eco-technology comes full circle by using recycled glass to house this special formulation.
