3 New Reasons To Buy Into The Cleansing Conditioner Craze

Cleansing Conditioner

The fascination with the cleansing conditioner category continues to grow with three new products from Mizani, Clairol, and Aloxxi International. The short answer of what a cleanser conditioner is, according to the Matrix hair care blog is, "Co-washing is short for“conditioning washing” or “conditioner-only washing.” This no-shampoo method is also referred to as cleansing conditioning or “no-poo” shampooing. It’s done with shampoo-free formulas that cleanse, balance and refresh your hair without stripping or depleting its natural oils and nutrients." And now onto what's new...

Honey Hydration

Feed your hair hydration with the new Hair Food Cleansing Conditioner by Clairol ($9.99, target.com) that conditions each strand with a soothing honey and apricot fragrance. This lightweight cleanser is also free of sulfates, parabens and mineral oil, and smooths the hair cuticle as it helps to protect it from future damage.

Curl Pattern Retention

For  the curly lot, curl memory is just as important as moisturization, which is why Mizani True Textures Cream Cleansing Conditioner was developed. In only one step you can gently cleanse and condition your hair, while retaining high moisture and maintaining your natural curl pattern for a touchable texture. This cream cleansing conditioner is a blend of Coconut, Olive, and Marula Oils, also known as Mizani's Curl Care Complex Technology that smooths, conditions, and hydrates hair, and is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids for healthy, moisturized defined curls.

Add Oil To The Mix

Q: What are your thoughts on the co-washing phenomenon? A: To be honest, I feel it's a temporary phenomenon that really most won't understand or want to try and experience.  It's a matter of convincing, that this product will help cleanse the hair without involving a second step. Kind of like saying, here's a body wash that you can apply that doesn't need rinsing- it just doesn't completely work for all to understand. Q: What pros/cons exist? A: Pros: less stripping to your hair texture by using a harsher shampoo; can be applied every other day; helps in moisturizing the hair.Cons: cost- most co-washes are a bit higher priced than a bottle of shampoo on average; not for all hair types; can produce build up on the scalp and hair.
Q: Is this a trend best used by only women with kinky/curly/wavy hair? It is a product better used for women with a thicker, heavier and curlier/wavy texture of hair because it will absorb better and essentially keep the hair intact without causing frizz or the hair to expand more.
