CurlFest 2017
So what is CurlFest you ask? The brainchild of the Curly Girl Collective and one of the founders, Tracey Coleman,
Curlfest 2017 was in its earlier rendition, a meetup for women who embraced their curly textures and simply wanted to talk curls and styles. Today, CurlFest, is a festival that includes women, men, and whole families who have a deep love for their curly manes. The 4th annual CurlFest sponsored by
NaturallyCurly.com was held at Brooklyn, New York's Prospect Park this year, and hosted thousands of naturalistas who not not only showed off a bevy of head turning natural styles, the festival highlighted and celebrated the many beautiful shades of black skin tones. And for those in attendance who were on top of their Gram game were lucky enough to see their favorite Insta naturalistas, live and in bold technicolor. Also in attendance to help service the masses was SheaMoisture’s pop-up salon, Mielle Organics founder Monique Rodriguez, who launched her new Mongogo Oil line, and Iman Cosmetics to name a few.

Why You'll Love It
This gathering of like-minded natuaralistas and naturalistos is
the place to reinforce the notion that your hair is beautiful just the way it is. It's gatherings like this that would've helped yours truly navigate through the negative words, "Can you change it?" spoken to me by skin care therapist school instructor after I dared to walked into class one day with my natural hair. To this day, those very words hold a negative place in my heart, but I've had to learn to place them in the pure ignorance pile. And while I forgive [this instructor] for her not doing better by me, I will never, ever forget.
