SHOW: Tanya Taylor

LEAD ARTIST: Julie Kandalec for essie

INSPIRATION

The Tanya Taylor Fall/Winter 2017 show brought us back to the ‘70s, and Julie Kandalec for essie created a dramatic crescent French manicure to instill the feel of that decade throughout the collection. Three different shades were used – go overboard, bahama mama, and smokin’ hot – depending on what the models were wearing on the runway.

SHOW: Michael Costello

LEAD ARTIST: Rita Remark for essie

INSPIRATION

Inspired by a “vixen’s love story,” Michael Costello’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection starts off with a dainty feel in both colors and materials, and ends on a tougher note, and Rita Remark for essie wanted the nails to mirror that. She created a copper wire nail using penny talk as an accent color, choosing it specifically because it matches the hardware throughout the collection.

SHOW: Naeem Khan

LEAD ARTIST: Gina edwards for KISS Products

INSPIRATION

The metallic and intricate embroidery seen in the collection is complemented with a mosaic glitter nail art design on imPRESS Press-On Manicure in Text Appeal. “The look is striking and perfectly complements the collection’s rocker vibe,” says Edwards.

GET THE LOOK

Edwards used imPRESS Press-On Manicure as the base. This one-step gel manicure creates the perfect base and eases the chaos backstage.  Please see below for the step-by-steps on how to recreate the look.

Step 1: Select your correct size imPRESS Press-On Manicure in Text Appeal then simply peel off backing and press on  natural nail

Step 2: File into a classic oval shape to elongate nails

Step 3: Using the top of the KISS Salon Secrets Nail Art Starter Kit as a tray, pour the bronze, gold and silver confetti HD glitters out in separate piles to create an easy work station

Step 4: Using the flat brush from the KISS Salon Secrets Nail Art Starter Kit, dip into clear nail polish then press into the bronze glitter, applying in a teardrop shape at the tip and up the side of the nail

Step 5: Create a mosaic pattern with the silver confetti glitter and gold glitter, pressing down firmly with the flat brush to secure glitter onto the nail

Step 6: Finish with KISS Gel Strong Topcoat

SHOW: Jeremy Scott

LEAD ARTIST: Miss Pop for CND

INSPIRATION

“The classic red nail has just taken an unexpected turn. Soaked in the LA sun and worn on a medium length almond, we’re making it cool to wear red again…and of course, adding our own twist!”

Arnold and Miss Pop set out to create the perfect hue to serve as the new staple for every pop culture “fan girl.” It took three simple layers: a base of VINYLUX™ Weekly Polish in Banana Clips, followed by a layer of Electric Orange, topped with a layer of Wildfire. Some models’ nails were further embellished with hand-painted gold stars reminiscent of the world-renowned Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“This look is all about playful showbiz glitz,” said Miss Pop. “Over a fiery red nail, I added graphic gold stars –rising up the nails, boldly standing front and center, and co-starring in corners. It’s an element that takes that aspirational glamour of LA and makes it DIY.”

SHOW: Christian Siriano

LEAD ARTIST: Rita Remark for essie

INSPIRATION

The Christian Siriano Fall /Winter 2017 collection was full of grooved lines and unique designs you only find created by wind – and nature. The clay-colored valley also inspired a rich, golden color palette. Rita Remark for essie created a nail look that mimicked the wavy patterns that the sand creates, using glamorous colors and textures directly inspired by the collection.

SHOW: Libertine

LEAD ARTIST: Heather Davis for CND

INSPIRATION

The CND Design Lab Team embraced the gypsy as an icon of freedom by upcycling, recycling and handcrafting a nomadic patchwork for nails. The look was grounded with intricately hand-painted roses in vibrant shades of primary and secondary brights using SHELLAC™ Brand 14+ Day Nail Color or VINYLUX™ Weekly Polish. Roses were then “spot varnished” with SHELLAC™ Top Coat or left powdery-matte, while backgrounds were either liquid-lacquered with BRISA™ Gel or treated to replicate silk velvet. The artists adorned nails with thread, beads, crystals, feathers and yarn – creating everything from needlepoint embroidery to a modern shag Mohawk effect. Some nails featured golden chains and even dangling fringe reminiscent of Rastafarian dreadlocks. In total, CND’s renowned artists put in over 400 combined hours to produce the decorative nail looks.
