How To Rock Target’s Black and White Fashion Trend

How To Rock Target’s Black and White Fashion Trend

Leading up to the big reveal of the fashions for Fall 2013, was a behind the scenes look at the Target commercial being shot and my trusty Samsung Digital was in-hand, capturing the happenin’ trends that all of us will want to rock from the store where you “expect more & pay less” – one of which I gravitated towards…the black and white fashion trend.

On show day, talk about high-octane energy! The Tuesday after Labor Day proved to be the most excited I’d been about a fashion show in pretty much all of my life.

NYC’s Chelsea Piers 57 was ground zero for street style photogs to lovingly stalk their favorite prey – fashionistas whose frocks ought be front and center at all times. Having arrived 30 minutes before showtime, yours truly ended up in the cross-hairs of said photogs…pictures I’ll share via Instragram this week, so please follow this Instagram newbie: gregorieg# to check them out.

As the fashionable crowd filed in to get checked in for the show, each person’s I.D. was scanned like your purchases would be at a Target store, which meant you were on “the list.” Mom, I’m a part of the ‘It’ crowd!

Upon entering the show venue, you couldn’t miss the Target Bullseye logo located smack, dab in the middle of floor where the models would soon be struttin’ their stuff before me. What was also noticeable was a huge camera staring me in my face as I composed some notes pre-show time. Within a few moments of my wondering why me, a woman accompanying the videographer/photographer asked if the brand could shoot footage of me for their commercial, to which I of course said yes….here’s to hoping I don’t end up on the cutting room floor!

As soon as the lights dimmed and the music decibel increased, dancers streamed out of three separate locations on conveyor belts to convene onto the bullseye to give the crowd of stylish onlookers a show that I and they would never forget. I’m verklempt it was so good.

Seeing as Target has proudly rocked the “cool place to shop” title for a few years now, I was proud when asked by the brand to rock my version of the chic, black and white trend wearing a Target piece or two, of course. On me is the fun junior line – Xhiliration Faux Leather Skirt in black ($24.99, target.com and Target stores). This mini was a perfect fit for me because it was a departure from the normal, high waist black pencil skirt I typically wear. I paired the skirt with a white black/white horizontal striped top that fell just above my hips, so the proportions made sense, as well as an off-white relaxed-fit blazer for a sophisticated bend and grey suede booties. My accessories? A pair of ghetto-fabulous silver hoops that read fun, fun, fun. How ya like me now?

Note: Let’s hope that by the time this post goes live, there’s something, anything left of the Phillip Lim & Target collaboration left in store or online to purchase. All I know is that I got my hot khaki trench coathallelujah!
