Pony Up: Hair Accessories for Updo Styles

Pony Up: Hair Accessories for Updo Styles

A ponytail is one of the easiest styles to pull off, but you have to pick the right hair accessories for updo styles.

Beyonce’s show-stopping dress calls for an un-obstructed hairstyle like this super-sleek ponytail which doesn’t compete with her dress for attention. But if this look is a little too simple for you, then jazz up your pony with an embellished ponytail holder like the Crystal Hair Elastic from J Crew ($16.50). Just remember to keep your earrings simple to wear this ponytail holder successfully.

Tip: A great trick to getting your to hair as smooth as Beyonce’s is to spray Phytospecific Extreme Shine Spray ($26, sephora.com – not pictured here), onto your brush before styling because it helps minimize flyaways.

Christina Millian’s playful take on the pony worn high on the back of her head is one of my favorite styles because it’s a little messy and undone. Of course, it helps that she’s got a big grin on her face. With this type of pony, feel free to use fun accessories like Juicy Couture’s Ponytail Holder ($25, saksfifthavenue.com) which doesn’t take it itself too seriously. C’est la vie!

If you’re not feeling the first two styles, then an elegant side-swept pony like Nia Long’s may just do the trick. Wearing the pony to the side adds an interesting element to the tried & true style. I suggest adorning your head with a bejeweled hair comb like the Jeweled Floral Comb ($9.80, forever21.com) at the base of the pony to really complete this look!

A ponytail never looked so good.

Hue Knew It? I did.
