5 New Spring Fragrances For Women

Check our picks of five new spring fragrances for women from Laundry by Shelli Segal, Tocca, Lush Cosmetics, Bond No. 9, and Balenciaga.

This is laundry by Shelli Segal’s first foray into the fragrance community and my feeling is that their inaugural effort will be a rousing success. Why? Because laundry by Shelli Segal Eau de Parfum ($55, lordandtaylor.com) has the support of the millions of women who support this established retail brand whose philosophy is to dress the “contemporary girl in sexy…that take her from work to play.” Like the retail brand, ‘laundry’ is “feminine, contemporary, free-spirited and fashion forward” with its blend of bursting fruits, fresh cut flowers and exotic woods. Wear this a sparkling floral chypre day & night, from work to play and even between seasons – a practice I definitely partake in. This is what juice in a bottle should be about.

If you can picture an expansive green lawn and fragrant gardens during the roaring 20’s, then you’ve got your hand on the pulse of TOCCA’s Spring fragrance offering – Liliana by TOCCA ($68, tocca.com). With it’s top, middle and bottom notes consisting of watery peach, white peony, musk & patchouli among others, Liliana hearkens to a time when the Charleston took over dance floors and when endless glasses of champagne were customary. Talk about nights filled with joie de vivre wouldn’t you say?

Consider Lush Cosmetics Gorilla Perfume ($19.95, lushusa.com) the anti-perfume in that, the creative force – father & son team of Lush, Mark and Simon Constantine want to “alter the way you perceive perfume.” In lieu of gorgeous bottles, Lush focused their energies on the juices of the various fragrances – all inspired by art, music, memories, people and stories and housed them all in utilitarian type bottles. Maybe the Constantine team have hit on something…it’s really about the juice, so why do we pay so much for perfumes? Things that make you go “mmmmmmmmm.”

Even if you’ve never walked the grounds of Central Park in New York City, you can take a sneak peak by way of  Bond No. 9 Central Park South Eau De Parfum ($260, nordstrom.com). Described as a “hauntingly elegant new eau de parfum.” Just spritz, close your eyes and take a stroll as ‘Bond’ awakens your senses as top notes of Springtime scents: grapefruit flower mingled with black current buds and green ivy leaves that live on trees dotted around Central Park. Once the top notes dry down, you then smell seductive heart-notes: a bouquet of classic, mesmerizing jasmine and ylang ylang, vibrant jonquil, and honeyed lily of the valley – the latter, a familiar early spring bloom in Central Park.  Bottom woody notes of sandalwood and cedar bark bring to life Central Park’s meadows. The vibrant bottle of vivid fuchsia blossoms plays host to a fully detachable bracelet whose blossom medallion converts to a brooch. Exquisite.

Price: 100ml, $260; 50ml, $190; Swarovski, $390; body silk, $130; refillable pocket spray, $95, Available at Bond No. 9’s five New York stores, Saks Fifth Avenue, select Nordstrom stores and bondno9.com.

…and from the The House of Balenciaga we have Balenciaga L’Eau Rose ($90-$115, nordstrom.com) – an explosion of violet with top notes of Green pear, blackberry, spicy notes & middle notes of Violet, rose, jasmine sambac, aromatic notes. Love the edgy black cap…it speaks to my rocker-chic persona in my head.

You guessed correctly if you said Bond No. 9 Central Park South Eau De Parfum…I gotta save my pretty pennies for this investment!
